Is comfortable teaching students K–12 in a multi-age, semi-private group format

Job Responsibilities
This teaching role includes instruction, student mentorship, parent communication, lesson planning, and participation in studio events and programs. Duties may include:

Teaching weekly Piano Club classes using the Scaling the Keys to Success program and the Faber Piano Adventures method book series, including the Lesson Book, Technique & Artistry Book, and Theory Book as the core curriculum, along with supplemental repertoire selections from various publishers

Implementing engaging weekly lessons that support musical growth, confidence, creativity, and a positive classroom culture

Incorporating group activities into each lesson such as games, rhythm activities, ensemble playing, music theory challenges, sharing performances, and collaborative learning experiences
-
Supporting students in developing healthy practice habits, goal setting, and personal responsibility
-
Communicating with parents as needed regarding student progress, practice support strategies, class participation, and at-home learning encouragement
-
Preparing students for performances, evaluations, and studio events including the Spring Showcase and other performance opportunities throughout the year
-
Assisting with planning and implementing MMUs (Musician Meet-Ups) and other studio-wide curriculum initiatives
-
Conducting Annual Parent/Student Check-Ins to discuss student growth, goals, strengths, and areas for continued development
-
Maintaining attendance records, lesson notes, and other studio documentation as requested
-
Collaborating with studio staff through attendance at monthly in-person staff meetings and monthly 1:1 check-ins

Supporting a welcoming and encouraging classroom environment that reflects the values and culture of mfMusic Studio

Assisting with classroom setup, organization of materials, and light cleanup following classes
-
Participating in continuing education, training, and curriculum development opportunities as provided by the studio

Potential opportunities to teach additional private piano lessons for intermediate and advanced students may become available based on studio needs and teacher strengths

Requirements

Passion for music education and helping students build confidence through music

Warm, engaging, and encouraging teaching style

Piano teaching experience with children

Strong piano performance and music literacy skills

Ability to teach using the Faber Piano Adventures curriculum and adapt instruction to varying learning styles

Strong classroom management and organizational skills

Familiarity with group piano instruction or willingness to learn

Formal college-level study in music required; degree in music or related field preferred

Reliable transportation and availability during after-school and evening hours

Comfortable using Apple devices (Mac, iPad, iPhone), Asana, Dropbox and Google Workspace tools

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

High school diploma or equivalent

Position Details

Compensation: Starting at $34/hour, with growth potential based on experience and performance

Schedule:
-
Part-time weekday afternoon/evening hours, Saturday morning hours, and occasional additional weekend hours
-
Initial teaching schedule is expected to average approximately 3 hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours as student enrollment grows; long-term schedule growth may reach approximately 10–12 hours per week based on enrollment needs and teacher availability

Teaching hours may increase during weeks with Musician Meet-Up Events, Showcases, and other studio events
