Embark on a Musical Storytelling Journey!

KEYNOTES CLUB

Piano Lessons Perfect for Beginner Students in Grades K-2.

Your child will have a blast with our fun, game-filled, story-based introduction to piano playing. The cyclical curriculum offers each student the ability to progress at their own pace, learning music elements and technique that will prepare them to advance to the Piano Club format as soon as they are ready. Classes are designed to be fun, collaborative, and enriching, ensuring your child will enjoy a fulfilling musical journey.

PROGRAM FEATURES

📖 Topic-Based Learning: Students will tell stories on the piano, developing their skills through creative and expressive approaches.

🎵 Intro to Music Literacy: We explore the elements of music and match them to stories and characters.  Is the Hare’s music fast or slow? Is the Giant’s song loud or soft?

▶️ Games and Songs: Learning becomes a joyful experience with games and songs that make lessons fun while building strong piano fundamentals in a playful environment.

🎹 Solo & Ensemble Playing: Students perform in every lesson, enjoying the joy of making music together while enhancing teamwork and listening skills. They also showcase their talents at events like Musician Meet-ups and the annual Spring Showcase, providing performance practice and brag moments for parents.

👥 Social Learning & Peer Motivation: Students learn from each other and encourage each other to practice and improve, creating an engaging, interactive, and positive learning environment.

⭐️ Individual Progress: Even within a group setting, KeyNotes uses differentiated strategies and cyclical learning structures to reach each individual learner. This personalized approach ensures that every child can progress at their own pace while benefiting from group dynamics.

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN

KeyNote Club aims to establish a solid foundation of music skills that students can build on for a lifetime of music-making.  Student will learn a range of music fluencies, that includes:

Creativity: Through improvisation and composition, we explore how piano playing can express moods, characters, and stories.
Basic Musical Elements: loud/soft dynamics, fast/slow tempos, ABA form, high/low pitch, whole, half, quarter and eighth and note rhythms, 4/4, 3/4 and 2/4 time signatures:, pre-reader & treble clef pitch names & notation
Interval Training: Students learn to recognize intervals on the staff, starting with one line and building to all five, to master music reading.
Singing: Singing is a key skill when learning any instrument. Storyteller learners sing the songs they play, using story text, finger numbers, and letter names to reinforce learning.
Technique: Technique is addressed in a creative way where our Storyteller learners consider how their piano playing can sound like knocking on the door, or like a lullaby!

• Rhythm & Pulse: Every lesson has activities that engage learners with rhythms: listening to them, tapping them, writing them, creating them, through which they develop an excellent sense of pulse!
